Dwight Howard is in the building.
Superman stood in line as the 'Imperial March' from the Star Wars movies echoed throughout the stadium. As he began slapping hands in the Magic huddle, the Nets P.A. announcer merely uttered the big man's name in his best impression of a fifth-grade history teacher calling attendance.
However, instead of the usual yawn from the bored students there was an enormous ovation welcoming Howard to New Jersey.
I've been to my share of Net games this season and lets just say the stadium was a little more crowded, more energetic, and the Nets techies put on quite the display all for one reason—to woo the big man into a marriage that every Net fan so desperately wants.
Howard was 'humbled' according to ESPN.com, in regards to the Nets fans reception of him. But humble did not describe his play tonight as he finished with 20 points and 17 rebounds.
The Magic dominated the game from start to finish. It only took until one minute left in the first quarter with the home team down 17 for the 'We want Howard' chants to begin.
Deron Williams gave the home crowd a player on their own team to cheer for when he hit a barrage of three-pointers in the third quarter including a four-point play.
But by the time the game was near its end, fans held up their over sized Dwight Howard heads and their second-grade quality pieces of artwork that resembled Howard in a Nets uniform.
Despite Superman's decline to comment on whether or not he wants to be a Net one day, there is one take away that leads it to be a strong possibility that every Net fan keyed on.
Immediately after the horn players normally shake hands with one another.
Not Howard, he ran over to the partial-owner of the Nets and shook his hand before being pulled away by teammate Jameer Nelson.
Let's just say it may not be the last time Jay-Z and Dwight are shaking hands. Next time, it could be with Dwight in a Brooklyn Nets jersey.
